The Lefever Nitro Special forearm irons are quite similar to a Field Grade Flues Model Ithaca forearm, and once Nitro Special Serial numbers passed 175000 they were in the same numbers as Flues serial numbers. So, perhaps they were stamped with the S to denote they were for a Nitro Special. Lefever sideplate serial numbers start at 5000 and end somewhere in the mid 74XXX range.
